In the depths of the forest, out on unceded Anishinaabe territory, two art crones named Amy and Risa are weaving a haven known as Missing Witches: A global coven, where we tell true stories about magic, and conjure a circle of belonging for all of us who hug trees, howl at the moon, change our lives with radical alchemy, love the sciences and the edges of the unknown, and seek a caring community that is trans-inclusive, anti-racist, and anti-ableist, with space for both tears and rage, and love and light, and all the juicy stuff in between.
At Missing Witches, our passion lies in delving into the depths of history, unearthing forgotten tales, and weaving them into the tapestry of our shared experience. Our community, vibrant and diverse, has been clamouring for tangible connections to our ethos – items that connect us through ritual garb, and make material the spirit of our gatherings, rituals, and shared wisdom.
As much as we long to adorn ourselves with symbols of our collective journey, we also need to heed the practicalities of our craft. We stand humbly before the altar of reality. We aspire to working with artisan screenprinters + designers to make beautiful MW gear, but the upfront investment is beyond our means right now, and the idea of housing inventory in our humble abodes is frankly panic-inducing. With our energies focused on birthing books and conjuring coven classes, the task of fulfilling orders ourselves is fully beyond us.
So, we've opted for print on demand – not a perfect option, but it does have some things going for it:
Unlike traditional merch, print on demand lets us to create only what's needed, when it's needed, allowing us to minimize waste and decentralize storage and shipping.
We've chosen top-rated producers in Canada and the USA. Some items are assembled at those plants with items manufactured internationally.
We’ve aimed to limit our selections to environmentally friendly items, plus a few garments that allow us to expand our size range, and to include soft fabrics, tear-away labels, seamless garments and other accessibility considerations. We'll continue to aim for both accessibility and sustainability.
We've also adjusted prices to make sure every size is charged the same price – we don't believe in a fat tax on clothes.
Though shipping in this model is largely out of our control, we prioritize affordable, eco-conscious options whenever possible.
We've written about anti-capitalism before, for us that’s not about being anti-business; it's about empowerment and equality. We believe in amplifying voices and protecting our planet, rejecting hyper-hierarchization and corporate dominance. We reject the idea that corporations have more rights than kids or rivers.
We believe in the magic of making and sharing our own platforms, and amplifying and expanding our dream worlds.
Let's weave magic together.
Blessed Fucking Be.
